Inspiration

-Curated Style Bundles-
The inspirations behind this organization come from thrifters and personal "style bundle" curators. They are individuals who thoughtfully thrift clothes to curate a personalized collections tailored to each customer's preferences. They promote sustainability as not only do they give secondhand pieces another chance, but they offer a budget-friendly alternative to fast fashion. By selecting high-quality, fashionable items and building custom wardrobes based on client measurements and aesthetics, they reduce waste and the impact of fast fashion.
This concept was a direct inspiration for this cause, as we want to create personal “style bundles” for those in shelters through donated clothes and clothes from thrift shops. This personalized approach aligns perfectly with ComfortCloset's mission, as we aim to create meaningful "style bundles" for children and single parents in shelters. Our main priority is to provide a sense of comfort and self-expression for those who rarely get a choice. Our hope is that our organization will transform secondhand fashion into a tool that will ensure that the recipients will be comforted by the clothes that were thoughtfully chosen for them.
Why?
-More than 85% of families in need are taken care of by single mothers, which make them the primary demographic in most family shelters.
-Babies usually outgrow their clothes every 2-3 months, which lead to a large amount of textile waste. More than 183 million pieces of children's clothing are discarded in landfills each year, with 1 in 3 parents throwing away their children's clothes due to uncertainty about appropriately recycling or donating them. The significant amount of baby clothes that go to waste each year contribute to 70-81 pounds of textiles the average American discards annually.
- People in shelters rarely get a personalized experience when it comes to receiving clothes. Although the process for getting clothes varies based on the shelter, individuals are usually asked to choose from a selection of pre-sorted clothes. There are rarely any instances where they can request for a specific style, color, or design through a one-to-one interaction.
